Alain Smith Carter in her 66th season of life, peacefully finished her earthly assignment on May 23, 2018 in the arms of her beloved husband to forever be in the presence of the Lord.
Alain was born May 17, 1952 to the union of Alvin and Oletha Smith in Blytheville Arkansas. Her family later moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas, where she grew up and started her life.
Alain attended Greater St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor W.L. Robinson. It was there where she was baptized and sang in the choir. She attended the Historic Langston High School. Alain was a graduate of Hot Springs High School Class of 1970. While growing up in Hot Springs Alain worked in the family restaurant. She also did some modeling in Hot Springs. 1n 1971 she moved to Kansas City, MO to pursue her career in Modeling and to attend Aviation School. She worked various jobs but ended up in the nursing field. Alain loved to help people. Her nursing career began at Menorah Medical Center in 1975. She later visited New York where she worked at Sears Credit. Alain married the love of her life, Melvin Carter in 1992. They returned to Kansas City, MO in 1993 and they became members of Clear Water Mission Church. She was a faithful member and was ordained as a Missionary in 2014. She continued her nursing career in home health. She continued to work despite her illness. Alain loved to cook for everyone and help others even during her illness. She always gave her best to everyone whom she encountered, she never met a stranger. On special holidays she would go and get the homeless and elderly and feed them.
She loved her family and husband deeply.
Those completing the journey before her include, her aforementioned parents; two brothers, Alvin Smith, Jr. and Fred Smith; two sisters, Margaret Smith and Oletha Smith and extended family members.
Her spirit will forever be cherished by her loving and devoted husband of twenty-five years, Melvin Carter of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Edward Smith (Jackie) of Kansas City, MO and Bishop Ted Smith of Hot Springs, AR; one sister, Oleta Smith of Baton Rouge, LA; her beloved step-children; Jeremiah Washington (Marquita), Kristina Butler (Steven), and Melvin Battles (Isis); four grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Funeral service for Missionary Alain Smith Carter was held in Kansas City, MO. Her earthly body was laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery. Services in Kansas City were under the direction of Lawrence A. Jones Funeral Home.
A memorial service to celebrate and share her life story with family and friends in Hot Springs will be held Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Carrigan Memorial Chapel.
