Obituary

Alice Ann Igwe, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, transitioned peacefully on March 1, 2025, at the age of 66. Alice Ann Nevels was born on May 24, 1958, in Arkadelphia, AR, and later made her home in Hot Springs, AR. She was the daughter of Raymond Nevels and Bobbie Gardner.

Alice was preceded in death by her brothers, William Gardner Jr. and Gotry Gardner, and her sisters, Cheryl Wile and Ottis McCoy.

At the age of 17, Alice married Johnny Ray Carter. She later welcomed her only child, Valerie, who blessed her with a loving extended family, including her son-in-law, Jeffrey Hill, and six cherished grandchildren. But Alice's family extended far beyond blood—she had a remarkable way of turning friends into family. She was known for her kindness, unwavering dedication, and the love she poured into everyone she met.

Alice was actively involved in her community and church. She volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club, chaperoned school field trips for the Mountain Pine School District, and was a familiar face at local events. She loved attending bingo nights and took an annual cruise with her spiritual brothers and sisters. She was a proud and devoted grandmother, always present at her grandchildren's sporting events, cheer and dance performances, and scouting activities.

Alice's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where she taught children's Sunday school and sang in the choir. Later, she embraced the Jehovah's Witness faith, dedicating herself to ministry, field work, and community service.

Despite facing numerous health challenges, Alice's resilience and strength were unshakable. Like a steel cable—flexible yet incredibly tough—she never let adversity diminish her spirit or love for life.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Valerie (Val) Denise Carter, and her six grandchildren: Marquisha, Brentten (Brent), Jeffrey (JD), Kie'Asia (Asia), Jycorrie (Corrie), and Jycobe (Cobe). She was also a proud great-grandmother to fifteen great-grandchildren. Alice leaves behind her beloved mother, Bobbie Gardner; her sisters, Flossie Gardner, Josephine (Thomas) Johnson, Carolyn Knox, and Madelyn Wells; her brothers, Nevels Nevels, Kenny Jones, and James Gardner; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and spiritual brothers and sisters.

Alice will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her laughter, wisdom and generous heart will live on in the countless lives she touched.

The Funeral will be on Saturday, March 08, 2025 at Noon. The visitation will be one hour prior at Mountain Pine High School 734 Blakely Dam Road Mountain Pine, AR 71956. Pastor Lorenzo Cleveland the officiant of The Potter Ministry 712 Leonard St. Hot Springs, AR. 71913.
