As the sun rose on the morning of Thursday, April 11, 2019, Barbara Jean Council Walker Yeargin died quietly after a long illness.

Barbara was born April 19, 1945, in Marianna, Arkansas.  She was the oldest of Thelma Barnes Council Sneed's thirteen children. She was an active member of Paradise Missionary Baptist Church.

Barbara grew up in Marianna and graduated from Anna Strong High School. She attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff where she graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.  She later earned her Master of Science degree in Elementary Education from Henderson State University.   She taught elementary school in Aubrey, AR; Richmond, CA; and Marianna, AR until her retirement in 2009.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Toya (Derrick) Dean, Montgomery, AL; two grandchildren, Devin Dean, Cincinnati, OH and Morgan Dean, Birmingham, AL; seven sisters, Katie Smith, Verna (Donald) Anderson, Roslyn (Claude) Jamerson, Sharon Council, Sandra (Gerry) Barrett, Audra (Benjamin) Moss, and Clarice Sneed.  She also leaves five brothers, Charles (Carrie) Council, Roman Council, Arthur Council, Otha (Brenda) Council, and Johnny (Deborah) Sneed, and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, her Wednesday crew, and her cats, which were dear to her heart .

The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Paradise Missionary Baptist Church, 22 Hill Street, Marianna, AR, under the

direction of Hightower and Sons Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Trinity Cemetery.

Local arrangements are entrusted to Carrigan Memorial Funeral Services.
