Berta Rene Stephens was blessed with 75 wonderful years and the Lord called her home on Saturday, December 22, 2018.  Her legacy began on May 24, 1943 in Arkadelphia when she was born to Lee and Mary Thornton Roberts.  They preceded her in death as well as two siblings, Benny and Linda Roberts.

She was a graduate of Peake High School and later attended Garland County Community College and received her degree in nursing.  She began her nursing career at Ouachita Hospital.  Berta's worked career extended to National Rejectors, Keith Smith Company and, Private duty nursing.  She was the owner of Rainbow Brite Day Care Center which offered twenty- four-hour service.  Due to declining health she closed the center in 2007.  She loved fishing and taking her family alone with her.  Berta love to swim and run.  Her favorite sport was tennis especially, watching Venus and Serena.  Berta was a faithul member of Bethlehem Temple Church where she served as a church mother and an Evangelist.

Survivors include her children, Bernard (Towandal) Stephens of Gautier, MS, Ray Stephens, III, of Sardinia, Italy, Teresa (Eddie) Summerville of Arkadelphia and Synthia (Walter) Green of Hot Springs; her former husband and the father of her children, Ray Stephens, Jr of Hot Springs; brother, James (Judy) Roberts of Arkadelphia; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren; a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Bethlehem Temple Church.  Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 – 6:30 pm Friday, December 28, 2018 at the funeral home.
