Betty Jane "Pal" Matlock in her 56 th season of life made her earthly transition on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. Her earthly journey began on March 1, 1962 in Milwaukee, WI. She was the daughter of John Dickerson, Sr. and Betty L. Matlock Dickerson. They preceded her in death as well as her brother, Lonnie "Goose" Dickerson. "Pal" as she was known to many worked many years for St. Joseph Mercy Hospital until her health began to decline. Betty was well known for her preaching to others and her smile. She never met a stranger. Pal loved everyone and always put God first, even when she became sick.
Betty was a graduate of Sparkman High School Class of 1982. She was a member of Greater St. Paul Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memories include her sister and best friend, Johnnie Mae Cheatham of Hot Springs, sisters, Fannie Taylor of Houston, TX and Marie Dickerson of CA; her brothers, John Arthur Dickerson of Memphis, TN, Sam Matlock of Memphis, TN, John L. (Odessa) Dickerson, Jr. of Tulsa, OK and James (Mayra) Dickerson of Humble, TX. Pal referred to herself as, "The Great Aunt" to her nieces and nephews including, a very special nephew, Demico Dickerson and his son, Isaiah "Big Man" Dickerson and other great nieces and nephews, a special aunt, Carolyn "Dollhead" Johnson and a host of other aunts and uncles and extended family. Pal had many special friends including, Sheila Hughes, Diane Ukurily and Sherry Hudson who was also like a daughter.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Greater St. Paul Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Sparkman, AR. Visitation will 5:00 – 6:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
The family will be at 315 Pinewood Street.
