Brian Keith Thompson aka "Shufffield or Shuff" in his 53 rd season of life passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 8, 2020, in St Louis, MO.
He was born August 7, 1966, in Hot Springs and was loved and nurtured by his mother, Nancy Thompson, and Frank Tops. He was the youngest of three brothers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Jordan Thompson (2018); his mother and bonus father, Nancy Thompson Dedmon (2019), and M.T. Dedmon (2006), and several close relatives.
Brian was a graduate of Hot Springs High School Class of 1984 where he excelled in football. He attended Bishop College in Dallas, TX where he also played football. Brian was a people person who never met a stranger. He was a loving, caring, and compassionate person and touched many lives near and far. His smile and laughter were contagious and the sound of his voice could be compared to none. In his early years, he attended Nazarene Baptist Church. He later became a member of the Gospel Mission Church of God in Christ where he was ordained as a deacon. He loved the Lord with his heart and soul and was an anointed singer. He would offer songs of praise to the Lord at anytime or any place. During his singing, he always would preach and give you a word from the Lord. While in Poplar Bluff he attended Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Tommie Robinson where he continued to sing and work with the deacon ministry. Brian developed great work ethics at an early age and was a great provider for his family. He began his working career at Delta Plastic now Berry Plastic. He later began a longtime career with the Job Corps System. His first job location was Ouachita Job Corps, Royal, AR, on October 30, 2005. He later moved to Kentucky and worked with the Frenchburg Job Corps, Frenchburg, KY. After his tenure in Kentucky, he relocated back to the Ouachita Job Corps where he implemented a mentor program named "The Rock". He remained there until they closed. Brian moved to Poplar Bluff, MO, and began working for the Mingo Job Corps, Puxico, MO. Brian was known by the students as "Mr. T" or "Pappa T", he also gained the respect of his fellow co-workers.
He leaves a lasting impression in the hearts of his children, Michael Jordon, and Monique (Lindaniel) West; his brothers, Frank (Vanessa) Thompson, and Gregory (Claira) Thompson all of Hot Springs; his father, Frank Tops; his bonus and extended siblings, Kathryn (James) Bruton Vancouver, WA, Marilyn Hughes, Tacoma, WA, Charlotte (John) Primm, Malvern, Lorrie Harrison of McKinley, TX, Vance Dedmon of Portland, OR and Ronald Davis of Hot Springs; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; a host of first cousins whom he considered as brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends will also miss him dearly.
A walk-through visitation will be Tuesday, June 16, 2020, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Masks are required to enter the funeral and will not be provided. All COVID-19 guidelines will be adhered to and will be strictly enforced at both services. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 17, 2020, on the lawn of Greater St. Paul Baptist Church 497 Crescent Ave, where Rev. Kenneth R. Gulley is the pastor and Rev. James F. Lambert, Jr. will deliver the message. There is no limit on attendance however, social distancing is a requirement. Please bring your lawn chairs, umbrellas, and masks.
