The Legacy
Of
Rev. Calve Cooper
The legacy of Calve Cooper began on December 21, 1937, in Prattsville, AR when he was born to Levi and Philistine Lambert Cooper.
He was the fifth child of eight children raised in a loving home. The Cooper family was a loving family and thanks to his father they loved baseball. Many Sunday afternoons were spent playing with family and friends.
Calve attended school at AA Wilson High School in Malvern, AR. On July 26, 1959, he took the love of his life, Lula Jeanne Jones to be his wife. Their union was blessed with four children. They were married for 60 plus years.
He accepted Christ at an early age at the Davis Creek Baptist Church, Prattsville, AR. He exhibited his faith by serving in many areas of the church. His most loved position was serving as President of the Joyful Singers. He also served as a deacon for many years. On Easter Sunday, April 1981, he accepted his call to the ministry of preaching. It was always known that he would become a preacher. As a child he would preach to his sisters and brothers. His most memorable sermon to his sibling was titled, "He who sits on a red-hot stove will rise again". During his pastorate, he served Mt Zion Baptist Church, Grapevine, AR for 35 years and Shiloh Baptist Church, Sheridan, AR for 23 years. Rev. Cooper served as the Moderator for the Jefferson Spring District for 24 years. In 1990, he received an honorary doctorate degree from Arkansas Baptist College. Some of his favorite quotes were, "Only What You Do for Christ Will Last", "Wont He Do It".
Rev Cooper came from a hardworking family and he held many positions including Brown Furniture Company, and Colony Furniture. He also was a supervisor for Klean Cleaning Company for many years before starting his own cleaning service, Consolidated Janitorial Service. He worked for Miller Funeral Home as well as Hubble Funeral Home for many years. He along with his wife and son, operated Zion Bus Company. The bus company was his pride and joy. He loved taking church members and community friends on trips near and far. He employed many young people from his home town. One former hometown employee said, "He gave me my first job, Uncle Sonny was the best boss I ever had."
On Tuesday, June 9, 2020, Rev. Calve Cooper at the age of 82, answered the long-awaited call from the Lord and went to be at rest. Although he stepped down from the pulpit due to his declining health, he never stopped telling the good news of Jesus Christ.
