"His Life Story"

On November 18, 1942 the Shady Grove Community of Lee County changed forever as William Scott, Sr and Lee Anna Lewis Scott became the proud parents of Charles James "C.J." Scott. His parents completed the journey before him as well as his son, Kenneth Parker, his siblings, David Johnson, William Scott, Jr., Mattie Adams and Clorine Ervin.

Charles attended Lincoln High School in Forrest City, AR. He joined the United States Army in 1961 and completed his education. After being honorably discharged he attended Shorter College in Little Rock, AR and The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (formerly AM&N, Agriculture, Mechanical and Normal College). Charles was a family man and was a great provider for his family and others. After working thirty-six for A.O. Smith Inland (now Smith Fiberglass System, LP), he retired to do what he enjoyed the most, fishing and hunting.

In 1994 he became a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. George White. He served faithfully as a financial supporter, deacon, male chorus, Sunday school, choir, and most notably he started the Audio/Video Ministry. He was a helping hand and a willing vessel wherever he was needed. In 2003 he and his wife moved to Hot Springs Village where they were blessed with a home on the lake. He was very happy to just walk to the lake to go fishing. They continued to drive each Sunday back to Scott, AR to attend St. Matthew Baptist Church until 2010. It was then that he and his wife joined Roanoke Baptist Church in Hot Springs, AR under the leadership of Rev. Leon R. Massey. Charles would continue his work for the Lord. He served as a deacon, trustee, choir, Sunday school and most notably he revived the male chorus. He was a very faithful member that will be missed not only for his melodious voice but for his outgoing personality.

On Tuesday, December 29, 2015 Charles heard music in the air as the Lord called him home from labor to rest. His legacy and memories will forever be etched in the heart of his wife of thirty-eight years, Earlene Scott of Hot Springs, Village: his children, Charles Ray (Patricia) Scott, Kelvin Eugene (Latonya) Parker and Charlotte (Travis) Pearson all of North Little Rock, Vera Bickerstaff and Felicia Cox both of Little Rock, Valerie Parker of Hot Springs, Velina (Darrell) Heard of Fort Worth, TX, and Natalie Branam of Omaha, NE; one sister, Annie Mae (Sylvester) Smith of Wrightsville; twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Charles has fought a good fight, he has finished his course, He has kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteousness judge, shall give him at that day, and not only him, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Funeral service Saturday, 12:00 Noon, January 2, 2016, St. Matthew Baptist Church 6411 Kerr Road Scott, AR. with Rev James T. Sloan officiating and Rev. Leon R. Massey will deliver the eulogy. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Friday, January 1, 2016 at Roanoke Baptist Church 315 Whittington Ave, Hot Springs, AR. Burial with military honors will be Monday, January 4, 2016 at 1:00 PM in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery 1501 Maryland Ave. North Little Rock.
