Obituary

Charlie Richard Fanning age 71, of Hot Springs, Arkansas owner of Fanning Construction Inc. passed from his earthly walk of life on Thursday, July 19, 2018 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  He was born August 2, 1946 in LaGrange, GA to John Wesley and Lucy Ann Lee Fanning who proceeded him in death.  He was also proceeded in death by his son, Richard A. Fanning; brothers, Robert L. Harrison (Judy) and Clarence Harrison.

Charlie was a graduate of Ethel W. Knight High School Class of 1964, he then attended Troup Technical School. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War while stationed in Germany. He served as a track Vehicle Mechanic, Communication Specialist, and a Paratrooper.  One of his proudest military achievements was receiving the rank of SGT in an unheard of 18 months.

He lived a full life having traveled the world, built bridges, operated heavy equipment, and repaired the roadways throughout the southeast region.  As one of the owners of the Troup County Drag Strips, he enjoyed hot rods, building motors and drag racing.  He was adventurous and fearless, enjoying parachuting, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing. His friends and family will miss his wit, laughter, and kind heart.

Those left to cherish his memories and to cherish his memories include his children, Linda (Nae) Fanning, Jeffery Fanning and Penny Fanning; four sisters, Johnnie Mae Smith, JoAnn Simpson (Rev. Allen), Carrie Mays (Randy), and Mary A. Reid; four brothers, Paul Reid, Jerry Harrison, J.C. Thomas (Carol) and Dion Jackson; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren; lifetime friends, Austell (Junior) Whitfield and Rueben Harison; special friends: Mary Caddle, Rickey Thompson and Nathaniel Robinson.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Carrigan Memorial Chapel.  His final funeral service and burial will take place in LaGrange, GA under the direction of Lake-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home in LaGrange, GA.
