Obituary

Clifford Hamilton Bates, fondly known as Cliff, peacefully transitioned on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the age of 79 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Robert S. Bates Sr. and Louise Tubb.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, Robert S. Bates Jr., Thomas "Bud" Bates, and John Wesley, as well as his sister, Shirley Witt.

He received his education at Newark High School in Newark, Delaware, and furthered his studies at Northeastern Christian Jr. College in Villa Nova, PA, culminating in a degree from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. Throughout his life, Cliff was deeply passionate about sports, and he also devoted his time to three meaningful Mexican mission trips. As a dedicated fan, he ardently supported the Lions and Tigers but wasn't as enthusiastic about the Pistons' victories. He also enjoyed watching college basketball games.

Cliff will forever be cherished by his loving wife of 51 years, Lynne Bates, of Hot Springs, his two devoted sons, Clifford (Becky) Bates and Mark (Amanda) Bates. His legacy extends to two grandsons and two granddaughters, and he looked forward to welcoming a future grandson and five granddaughters into his family. Additionally, he leaves behind six nephews and one niece, along with a host of cousins, family members, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to National Park Church of Christ, Dierksen Hospice, and Alzheimer's Disease. Your generous contributions will honor the memory of Clifford Bates and make a positive impact in a cause that was dear to his heart.

The family deeply appreciates your support and thoughtfulness during this difficult time. Your donations will be a meaningful tribute to Cliff's life and the values he held dear. Thank you for honoring his memory in this special way.
