Obituary

Dennis Alonzo White, affectionately known as “D,” “Big D,” and “Big White,” departed this life on Saturday, May 9, 2026. He was born on January 3, 1952, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Ivery G. White, Jr., and Estaleen Scales White.

Dennis lived his life doing whatever he could to care for the well-being of others. He valued family, friendship, hard work, and loyalty. His warm personality, sense of humor, and willingness to help made a lasting impact on everyone who knew and loved him.

Dennis was a proud graduate of Hot Springs High School, Class of 1972, where he excelled in both football and basketball during his junior high and high school years. Known for his athletic ability and competitive spirit, he earned many accolades in football and carried that same determination throughout his life. Following high school, Dennis continued his education and athletic career by attending Oklahoma State University and AM&N College. His love for football continued as he later played semi-professional football for the Arkansas Champs, where he built lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories.

He became a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Pastor Douglas E. Jones. Although he was not always seen in the spotlight, Dennis was always willing to serve and help get things done wherever needed.

A true jack-of-all-trades, Dennis was gifted with his hands and could fix just about anything. He loved construction work, plumbing, and working on projects that allowed him to help others. Whether it was repairing a home, lending a helping hand, or offering advice, Dennis never hesitated to serve those around him. He was known for his generous spirit and kind heart, a man who would truly give you the shirt off his back to help someone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Herbert N. White (October 2025); and his nephews, Maurice L. Adams (October 2019), Jeremy D. Duvall, Sr. (April 2017), and Joshua D. White (April 2011).

Dennis leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Mary Anne White; his stepsons, Lamont Hicks and Dominic Simpson; his siblings: Ivery G. White III of Hot Springs, Arkansas, now residing in Flint, Michigan; Glodine E. White, Bettie Lou White, Robert (Jo) L. White, Ann M. White, and Frankie (Patricia) L. White; sister-in-law Angelia Y. White; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and close friends; and his football comrade and dear friend, James “Duck” White.

Dennis will be remembered for his strength, generosity, hardworking spirit, and the love he showed to everyone around him. His legacy of kindness, service, and dedication to family and community will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
