Obituary

Ethel Fay Young, 84, of Hot Springs, AR, transitioned on November 8, 2024. Fay was born on August 30, 1940, in Locksburg, Arkansas, to Cleotis and Zeola Geiger, alongside her twin brother, Curtis Ray.

Fay attended school at Childress in Nashville, AR, and moved to Hot Springs in 1957, where she spent most of her life, aside from seven years in Maricopa, Arizona. While in Hot Springs, Fay earned a business certificate from Hot Springs Business College where she worked diligently for the county clerk and Safeway.

Fay married her first husband, Arthur Young, and they welcomed four children together. She found immense joy in nurturing her children, and grandchildren, and was a  Momma to many. At the age of 50, she adopted her granddaughter, Contessa. Fay cherished her faith and served the Lord with all her heart as a devoted member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and Union Missionary Baptist Church. In 2007, Fay met and married the love of her life, Harvey Hammock Jr., with whom she shared 15 blissful years until his passing (August 13, 2022).

Fay was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Bob and Halton; her sister, Thelma; her son, Phillip; and her beloved husband, Harvey.

Fay's legacy is carried on by her surviving daughters, Arthenia (Kerry) Newburn, Contessa (JD) Young, Brenda Hammock and Christine Wright; her sons, Ricky (Ann) Young, Steve Young, Gail (Rose) Hammock, and Reginald (Jatansha) Hammock; her daughter-in-love, Faleasha Young; her brothers, Curtis Ray and Howard Geiger; and her sisters, Hazel Tooks, Edneta Thompson and Armenter Moon. Fay leaves behind her dearest friends, Ruby Franklin, and Rosetta Lacefield, as well as a cherished legacy carried on by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. In her final days, she was lovingly cared for by her caregivers, Jillian Vice, her granddaughter Sophia, her daughters, and the compassionate team at Elite Hospice.
