Frank “Bubba”
Cooper, Jr
Jul 3, 1951 — Jun 4, 2018
Frank Cooper, Jr known to most as "Bubba" or "Mr. Cooper" passed away Monday, June 4, 2018. He was born the only son of Frank and Peral Jones Cooper, Sr July 3, 1951 in Hot Springs, AR. Being the only son, Frank was well loved and spoiled by his sisters and he loved them dearly.
His parents preceded him in death as well as two sisters, Charlene Cooper and Totsie M. Cooper; a niece and nephew, Kenneth and Andrea Scott
Frank attended the Historic Langston High. He along with others made history by being a part of the first graduating class of 1969 when Hot Springs High School became integrated. During high school he played football and was a proud bulldog and a proud Trojan.
Frank was a Christian, a believer of God and of the Baptist faith, he along with his family attended Nazarene Baptist Church in his earlier years.
Frank was a veteran of the United States Navy. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Hunter in 1972. Their union was blessed with a son and twin daughters which shared his birthday, July 3. After years of marriage they divorced but learned to stay friends and co-parent their children. His children will remember their father as being a great provider and adviser. He was not a person that was big on words but his children respected the fact, that he did the best he could. He never failed to let them know that he was proud of them. He will be remembered as a man who was committed to what he started and was never a quitter.
Frank worked for Hot Springs school District and retired after 28 years of service. Him, along with the late Clifford Coleman helped to initiate a program known as a Watch Dog Program. It was a program where men (father, grandfathers, uncles, nephews, guardians, etc.) would come to the school and walk the hallways checking on the students, reading to them and being a mentor. Frank had a love for the children, so it was no surprise that after retirement he became a volunteer for the school. He served as a crossing guard, bus monitor and whenever he was needed to assist with the children. Frank lived across the street from Langston School and his front porch was known as "The Teachers" Lounge for many of the teachers. They loved when he would fire up the grill and cook hot dogs and burgers for them. He had a German Shephard named Rosie Bell and the children from the school would often go to the fence to either feed the dog or dress her for the various Holidays. It was a much-awaited field trip for all involved. Frank loved all sports but T-Ball and Softball was his favorite. While at Park Elementary he began to coach teams and that role never ended.
Frank's untimely death has left a void that will only be filled by precious memories he has left behind. Those left to share those memories include his son, Frank "Buzzy" Cooper, III of Hot Springs; twin daughters, Margaret Cooper and Melissa (Isaac) Ricks all of Killeen, TX; the mother of his children, Barbara Hunter Cooper of Hot Springs; his beloved sisters, Inez Cooper-Milsap, Willye Cooper-Martin, Nannette Cooper-Scott and Barbara Cooper all of Hot Springs; 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; his nieces and nephews, Keith Scott, Angel Calhoun, Regina Milsap and Aprille Martin; his furry child and companion, Rosie Bell; a host of great nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and the many beloved children, teachers and staff of the Hot Springs School District and community that
