Obituary

Gilbert Martin, Jr., 73, of Hot Springs, AR, transitioned on July 24, 2025, in Hot Springs, AR. He was born on November 14, 1951, in Hot Springs and was the beloved son of Gilbert and Edith Mae (Vaughn) Martin.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Vanessa Martin; and his son, Timothy Martin.

Gilbert was a proud graduate of Lake Hamilton High School and dedicated many years of service to Weyerhaeuser. He was known for his steady presence, kind heart, and warm spirit qualities that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Gilbert was an active member of the church. He first served as a Deacon. Later, he answered the call to ministry and became a Pastor under the tutelage of Pastor Virgil Anderson at Macedonia Baptist Church in Mountain Pine, Arkansas.

Gilbert also helped establish the Men's Mentoring Program, with two other colleagues, which focused on developing young men and encouraging fathers and male role models to stay actively involved in their lives and education. The program included various outings and activities designed to build character and leadership.

He was also an avid bowler, enjoying spending time at the lanes and sharing laughs and friendly competition with friends and family. Gilbert never met a stranger and had a heart for reaching and inspiring others, especially young men, to become the best versions of themselves.

Gilbert leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Elnora Martin; his son, Gilbert Martin III; and two loving daughters, Shonna (Kevin) Richardson and Kimberly Martin. He was also a proud stepfather to four children who held a special place in his heart. He is survived by four sisters: Linda Brown, Cynthia Woodard, Sherry (Ben) Wiley, and Latasha (Scott) Rivers; and three brothers: Danny Martin, Tyrone Martin, and Cornell Martin. Gilbert was blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and mentees who will forever cherish his memory.
