Glenn Denormus
Worsham
Nov 4, 1941 — Sep 2, 2020
Glenn Denormus Worsham was born on November 4, 1941, in Howell, Arkansas, to the union of Coutelyou (CT/Buck) Worsham and Ellen Stegall Worsham. Glenn was the 4th child of eight children. He accepted Christ at an early age at Eason Chapel A.M.E. Church, Grays Arkansas. Later in life, he converted to Catholicism and joined St Brigid Catholic Church, Detroit, MI and St Mary of the Springs Catholic Church, Hot Springs, AR. He departed this life on September 2, 2020.
In 1960, Glenn graduated from Elmira Brown High School in McCrory, AR, as Salutatorian and Senior Class President. He was an officer of the Woodruff County 4-H Club where he his future wife served as county officers, but did not know it at the time. Glenn played on the Elmira Brown High Basketball Team and the McCrory Baseball Team that was sponsored by Mr. Jack Penro, the owner of Jack's Café, McCrory, AR. The team played their games after church on Sundays.
After high school, Glenn attended the University Of Arkansas Pine Bluff, formerly known as AM&N College. He moved to Compton, CA with his brother Floyd for a short period of time and finally landing in Detroit to live with his sister, Esther Jean. Upon arriving in Detroit, MI, Glen obtained a coveted job, in the auto industry at Chrysler Corporation. While working at Chrysler Corporation, Glenn was drafted by the United States Army to serve his country during the Vietnam War.
After serving his time in the United States. Army, he returned to Detroit, Michigan. Shortly after his return in 1966, on a blustery winter's day, Glenn was walking close to a building in downtown Detroit when he was accidentally hit by a door by a lady who was entering the building. The lady was Evelyn Maxine VanOrsby, his high school sweetheart!. They had not spoken to or seen each other in several years! Now, that was a miracle reunion! They were married on December 7, 1968. To the union two children were born and they raised their family on the northwest side of Detroit. Glenn became the neighborhood "dad" always offering advice and attention to all the neighborhood children who needed it.
Glenn left Chrysler and became a government employee, working for General Service Administration (GSA). Everywhere Glenn worked, lived or fellowshipped he developed lifelong friends. He was always the dependable friend and leader one could always count on.
Several years after their children graduated from college, Glenn and Evelyn retired and relocated back to Arkansas. They landed in Hot Springs and thoroughly enjoyed the resort city and being closer to family. Glenn along with his wife joined St. Mary of the Springs Catholic Church. Glenn served as an officer in the Knight of Columbus and a member of the American Legion.
Glenn loved his family. Every year the family vacation was going back to Arkansas and stopping at cousins' homes along the way. He was a valuable member of the Worsham Clan, always offering advice solicited, unsolicited and celebrated everyone's accomplishments. Glenn loved to play dominoes with his cousin "Bill" Morris, and his daughter, Celeste, watching westerns and wrestling. Glenn also loved to travel and to explore new areas. One never knew when he would call his sisters and tell them, "We are passing through. Want to meet us at Cracker Barrell? Just look for the Ram Big Horn." .
Glenn was an active member of the Brown-Williams High School Group. He was working diligently to place a memorial at the location of what was known as the Colored School in McCrory, Arkansas. He was the Chairman of the Brown-Williams Memorial Garden Committee. Glenn wanted to make it known that Black children were educated by some of the best Black teachers in the county.
Working hard on the family farm with siblings and raised by parents with integrity, family values were very important. He took care of "All" of his "Girls" Maxine, Celeste, Marie, Christen and Lauryn. Glenn continued to follow the footsteps of his brother, Floyd Worsham, by donating funds for school supplies to all students at every Worsham Family Reunion and he took care of all business concerning the Stegall-Worsham Farm in McCrory, AR.
Glenn left this earth on September 2, 2020, but just the day before, he was in good spirits laughing and joking on face time with his favorite girls, his granddaughters, Christen and Lauryn. He was the glue that held the family together. We will miss him tremendously.
Glenn, is preceded in death by his mother Ellen Stegall Worsham, his father, Coutelyou (CT/Buck) Worsham, his sister, Jacquelyn Worsham, his brother, Floyd Worsham, his sister, Esther Jean Worsham Snyder and son in law, Warren Christopher Banks.
