Gloria Jean
Perkins
Dec 7, 1951 — Dec 31, 2024
On December 31, 2024, Gloria Jean (Percy) Perkins, 73 answered God's call to leave her earthly home to be with Him. Gloria was born December 7, 1951, in Hot Springs, AR to Walter Magness and Julia Mae James.
Gloria was preceded in death by her mother, father, and stepfather, her brother Robert H. Percy, Jr., her nephew Robert H. Percy III, and other family members.
Gloria's early childhood was truly remarkable. She was raised by her mother and her military stepfather, Robert Henry Percy, whose career in the armed forces allowed the family to travel extensively. During her formative years, she lived in Torrington, CT, and Okinawa, Japan.
Gloria and her mother returned to Hot Springs, along with her siblings. She attended Langston High School and was active as both a cheerleader and a majorette. She later graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1970. Following graduation, she continued her education at Capital City Business College in Little Rock, AR. On September 3, 1976, Gloria married Jimmy R. Perkins in holy matrimony. They traveled and shared the love of sports and music while always taking exceptional care of one another. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She spent 17 years working for Entergy (formally known as Arkansas Power & Light) and another 17 years working for the Hot Springs Street Department, where she retired from the latter in 2014. Gloria was a loving member of Roanoke Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Decoration Committee until her health began to fail.
Gloria's beautiful smile lit up any room she entered and she was known for her loving, caring, and humorous personality. She made an impact on the lives of everyone she knew, whether it was talking for hours to family members or friends, giving advice, or just the personal way she let them know she cared about them. She usually had a joke or old saying that magically correlated with whatever conversation she was a part of at the time. She loved spending time with friends and family and she always welcomed them into her home, along with any friend they brought with them. With a loving firmness, she taught her children to be kind, responsible, and persistent. She consistently supported their extracurricular activities when they were young and was their biggest fan. Gloria was a wonderful example for them on how to live their lives, have faith in God, and take care of those you love.
Gloria Leaves behind to cherish her memories: her devoted husband of 48 years Jimmy R. Perkins; daughters Shae (Curtis) Parker of West Chester, OH and LaTaya Perkins of Dallas, TX; two sons LeMar Perkins and Rashad (Alyson Bohlar) Perkins of Hot Springs, AR; three sisters Marion Percy of Atlanta, GA, Katherine (Percy) Tweedle of Detroit, MI, Patricia (Percy) Johnson of Jacksonville, NC; sister-n-law Jeanie (Charles) Butler of Richardson, TX; brother-n-law Abram (Allene) Perkins, of Pacific, MO; ten grandchildren Cameron Parker of Houston, TX, Nigel Parker of Greensboro, NC, Keyona Walker and Mikhia Montgomery of Dallas, TX, Samantha Parker of West Chester, OH, Nadia Perkins of Sherwood, AR, Sidney Perkins and Jordan Perkins of Hot Springs, AR, Austin Perkins and Jhett Perkins of Hot Springs, AR; three great-grandchildren Tristan Parker and Talynn Parker of New Orleans, LA, Alani Olds of Dallas, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends
