Obituary

Lacy John Griffith began his journey of life on May 9, 1931, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas as the son of Richard and Roberta (Tate) Griffith. He was affectionately called "Bish" by his family and others in the community.


Lacy participated in the Korean War as a soldier in the United States Army. In June 1952, Lacy was united in holy matrimony to Dorothy Jean Penix. He was father to eight children: John C., Bill, Ruthella, Charlotte, Lacy D., Bevelyn, Porctia, and Terry.


He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at a young age. He was a dedicated member and Deacon at Bethel Baptist Church in Rockford, IL, and Greater Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Arkadelphia, AR. On Father's Day, June 20, 2021, Great Pleasant Hill celebrated 90-year-old Deacon Lacy Griffith, the oldest father at Greater Pleasant Hill.


In June of 1993, Lacy retired from Rockford Products and moved back to his home state of Arkansas. Once again becoming a proud resident of Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He was an avid bid whist card player and enjoyed bowling and fishing during his leisure time.


On Monday, September 12, 2022, the Lord closed his eyes and granted him rest. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Roberta Griffith, beloved wife Dorothy Griffith, daughter Porctia Jenkins; and siblings Bennie Griffen, Huie Griffith, Richard Griffith, Evelyn Moore, Fred Griffith, and Lula Harris.


Those left to cherish his legacy include children, John C. (Lillie) Penix, Ruthella (Emmett) Pettiway both of Rockford, IL, Bill (Angela) Griffith, and Charlotte Driver, both of Los Angeles, CA, Lacy D. (Sharon) Griffith of Hot Springs, AR, Bevelyn (Gerald) Weston and Terry (Ruthie) Griffith of Rockford, IL; 20 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-great grandchildren, special great- granddaughter and caregiver, Lateeae Brown of Arkadelphia AR; brothers Will (Venita) Griffith of Providence Forge, VA and Joe Griffith of Brentwood, CA, brother-in-love Benjamin Harris of Inglewood, CA sisters in love, Joy Griffith of San Pedro, CA and Ann Griffith of Joliet, IL, Cleolia Penix, Maude Penix, and Delisa Penix all of Rockford, IL, brothers in love, Bill (Helen) Penix, Dale (Johnnie) Penix, and Eugene (Marilyn) Penix all of Rockford, IL. And a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended families; special friend and caregiver, Gloria Hart of Arkadelphia, AR.

The visitation will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 10:00 am at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church 1600 Caddo Street, Arkadelphia, AR. The funeral will follow at 12:00 noon. The burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery.
