Larry “Bubba”
Don Block, Sr

Larry Don Block, Sr affectionately known as "Bubba", passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019, in his 70th season of life. He was the son of Bennie and Lois Jefferson Block.
Larry was a graduate of Dunbar High School Class of 1965. He attended Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, Texas. Larry began his professional career with General Dynamics in San Diego, California. HIs professional journey continued with IBM and Affiliated Computer Services (ACS) where he was a computer analyst. Larry retired from ACS in 2010. Larry was a 33 rd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a devoted member of the King David Lodge #2500 in Houston, Texas where he served as past secretary for 14 years. Until Larry departed this earth, he was the Right Worshipful Grand Secretary for 12 years for the Most Worshipful M.W. St. Joseph Grand Lodge in the state of Texas. He was a member of the Malta Temple #95, Houston, TX.
Larry grew up in Canaan Baptist Church and maintained a Christian religious affiliation with Alief Baptist Church in Katy, Texas. Larry had a passion for art. This passion led him to establish Block Art, Inc. with a specialization in framing. He was an avid reader. He loved fishing, cooking on the grill and playing dominoes. His compassionate spirit and infectious smile will be greatly missed.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Bennie L. Block; his brother, Leroy "Sonny" Block, grandparents, Frank and Allie Cheatham and Conway and Valree Block, Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Dr. Harriette Howard Block, Katy, TX; his mother, Lois B. Block of Texarkana, TX; two sons, Damon Block of Austin, TX and Larry D. Block, Jr. of Dallas, TX; two daughters, Landa Block of Houston, TX and Dr. Leonette Lee (DeLonté) Copeland of Delray Beach, FL; six grandchildren: Jordyn, Larryn, Lorelei, Skylar, Delonté, Jr. and Malik; his sister, Linda (Rev. Freddie) Smith of Fulton, AR; his bonus sister, Shirley (Jerry) Griffin of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law, Dr. Lowri Marie Howard (Walter) McGowan of Tuskegee, AL; one aunt, Irene Walker of Texarkana, TX; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Canaan Baptist Church 1002 Laurel Street, Texarkana, AR. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 10:50 AM with Masonic Rites at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Texarkana, TX.
