Larry Lawrence
Jones
Apr 1, 1948 — Nov 24, 2022
Larry Lawrence Jones, in his 74th season of life, heard the voice of God on Thursday, November 24, 2022, in Malvern, Arkansas. He peacefully closed his eyes to be with the Lord at his home surrounded by family. He was born on April 1, 1948, in Los Angeles, California to Alvester and Frauline Jones. They preceded him in death as well as his mother-in-law Flora Singleton, father-in-law Johnny Turner, step-mother Dorothy, sister Joanna, and brothers Sylvester and Douglas.
In his early life in Los Angeles, Larry sang with the James Cleveland Community Choir. He was a drummer for the A. A. Wilson Dragons, a boxer, and was very athletic.
He graduated from A.A. Wilson High School in 1966 and then attended some college. He went on to serve honorably in the United States Air Force. He was stationed all over the world.
After serving his time in the Air Force, he moved back to Malvern and began working as a plant worker. During this time, he married the love of his life, Carmen Marie Singleton, in 1994. Through their union, they had one child, Gina. He also had four children through his previous marriages/relationships—Nedra (Gloria), Tramaine (Jan), Cameron, and Dara (Zelma). He retired from Reynolds/Alcoa after 33 years. He made the most out of his retirement by doing things he loved, such as fishing, playing dominoes with friends, and spending time with his family.
Larry joined Union Missionary Baptist Church with his wife and daughter Gina in 1995. He loved his church. He started the Celebrate Recovery Outreach Ministry in 1997, which has fed thousands of people over the years and is still going strong today. He had a passion for helping people with addictions and talking about what God had done in his life. He shared his story openly and freely. He was an active trustee, finance committee member, and men's choir member until his health began to fail him.
Larry loved to tell stories about his experiences. He knew how to captivate a room and make anyone laugh or smile. He was a friendly person who never met a stranger. He was known for riding around Malvern in his truck. Everyone who knew him knew he was crazy about his girl, Carmen.
He loved his family and his legacy will be continued by his loving wife of 28 years, Carmen Marie Jones; children, Nedra Jones (Rodney Boyd) of DeSoto, TX, Tramaine Jones of Malvern, AR, Cameron Jones of Benton, AR, Dara Jones of Little Rock, AR, and Gina (Kreylon) Gulley of Bryant, AR; sister, Parnetha Monroe of Malvern, AR, brothers-in-law, Virgil Davis (Rhonda Wikstrom) of Vacaville, CA, Kenneth Singleton of Texarkana, TX, James Williams of Dallas, TX; Mother-in-law Linda Turner of Pomona, CA, sisters-in-law, Gladys Jones of Hot Springs, AR, Loretta Singleton of Fort Worth, TX, Florinicia Williams of Fort Worth, TX; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, best friend Nathan Mitchell, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
