Larry John
Simmons
Aug 11, 1962 — Aug 31, 2025
Larry John Simmons, 63, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, transitioned on Sunday, August 31, 2025. He was born on August 11, 1962, in Hot Springs to Virtrum Simmons and Bertha Stinson.
Larry lived each day to the fullest. For over 30 years, he dedicated his life to nursing, serving as a Registered Nurse in Hot Springs and the surrounding areas. This calling was more than a career; it was a ministry of compassion, excellence, and kindness. His care touched the lives of countless patients, co-workers, friends, and family.
A man of many passions and talents, Larry loved music and played both the piano and guitar, filling notebooks with his own songs and melodies, a gift he inherited from his mother. He cherished the outdoors, especially camping, fishing, playing horseshoes, and spending Saturday nights with friends and family. A natural storyteller, Larry enjoyed sharing his life lessons and experiences from his favorite chair.
His faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was especially grateful for the support and fellowship he experienced in church and during his time with Mrs. Loretta, a devoted caregiver who strengthened his walk of faith. Larry was also a skilled salesman and, alongside his wife, became knowledgeable in antiques, where his intelligence, creativity, and charm shone brightly.
Larry's family remembers him as an extraordinary brother, caregiver, friend, and companion. His bond with his brother Jerry was especially strong — they shared daily conversations, frequent visits, and many of life's greatest joys. Larry also enjoyed playing board games, particularly Monopoly, where he was almost always the banker and managed to "stay rich," much to everyone's amusement.
Even in his later years, Larry faced health challenges with resilience and courage. With the loving support of family and especially his dear Nora, who was a tremendous blessing as a caregiver, Larry continued to live with dignity, gratitude, and love.
He is preceded in death by many loved ones and leaves behind a family who cherishes his memory: brothers Gary Dunn Stinson, Terry Vaughn Simmons, and Perry Lonnie Simmons; sister Sherry Mae Simmons Samuels Foster; cousin Vicky Simmons, who was like a sister to him; and his devoted brother and caregiver, Jerry V. Simmons. He also leaves behind Nora N. Shearfield, who selflessly gave her time and love during his final years, along with many extended family members, friends, co-workers, and the countless patients whose lives he touched.
The family offers heartfelt thanks to the doctors and medical staff who cared for Larry with dedication and compassion: Dr. John Scott, Dr. Erwin, Dr. Joysu, Dr. Cara, Dr. Joseph Lavaca, Dr. Patel, Dr. John Stevens, Dr. Matthews, Dr. Raymer, Hamilton West Family Medical, the Walk-In Clinic, and the many home health nurses and caregivers who provided comfort and support.
A memorial service to honor Larry's life will be announced at a later date.
