Obituary

Lenon Junior Hicks, 74, of Hot Springs, AR, transitioned on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. He was born in Hot Springs, AR, to Roberta Penny-Hicks and George Hicks.

Lenon is preceded in death by his parents, his son Leonard Hicks, his sisters Dorothy Mitchell and Louise Watson, and his brothers Ralph Hicks, William Dean Hicks, Arthur Mitchell, Leonard Tatum, and Joe Mitchell.

Lenon was a proud graduate of Langston High School, class of 1968. After high school, he served in the United States Army from January 1969 until January 1970, earning a National Defense Service Medal, 2 O/S bars, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 1960, and Marksman badges for the M-14 and M-16.

Following his military service, Lenon moved to Detroit, MI, where he worked for the City of Detroit for 30 years. He liked moving around and lived all over the city of Detroit. He also spent time in Wisconsin with his sister and nephew and later moved to Florida to live with his daughter and create even more memories. Afterwards, he moved back to Hot Springs, where he spent his final years before God called him home. He was blessed to have his nephew and niece-in-law, John and Alisha, care for him during his final days, and he blessed them with laughter.

Lenon enjoyed music, traveling, dressing sharply, spending time with his family, and standing firm in his beliefs. He loved listening to music and cooking a tasty pot of pinto beans. He also liked spending time with family and friends and bragging about his name being inscribed on his glasses. To this day, no one knows if that is true. Most of all, he loved the Lord.

Lenon is survived by his children, Lionell (Pam) Hicks, LaShanda (Phil) Gains, and Lenon (Jameka) Best, his siblings Elouise Whitmore, Lee Davis (Wilma) Gill, Lee (Jackie) Hicks, Joe Nathan Hicks Sr., Roosevelt Hicks, and Ronald Hicks. and his grandchildren Lundyn, Leniyah, Jamieson, Jalen, and Serenity. Lenon leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.

The family will be having a private service.
