Obituary

Lieutenant Roberts in his 83rd season of life peacefully feel asleep in the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. He was surrounded by the love of his devoted wife, family and church family. He was born August 14, 1933 in San Augustine, TX to Matthew and Sarah Land Roberts. A jokester at heart, when asked how he came to be name Lieutenant, he said, "I guess they ran out of good names, so they gave me this one". His parents preceded him in death as well as his siblings, James Roberts, Woodrow Roberts, M.C. Roberts, Nina Wright, Lucille Pobest and Ethel Moore.

He was known to his family and friends as, Dick, L.T., Smiley and Louie. He had a Fifty-Five (55) year career as an Automotive Mechanic. He worked for the dealership of Pontiac-Buick-GMC with Hensley, Jordan, Morman Bates and Allen Tillery. He retired in August 2009. Lieutenant never took a sick day and most of the time he never took a full vacation.

Lieutenant was a faithful member of Evangelist Temple Church of God In Christ. He exhibited his faith by serving as a Deacon, Finance Ministry, Handyman/Janitorial, Gardner and as a servant.

His memories will forever be in the heart of his loving and devoted wife of sixty years (60), Nola Graves Roberts of Hot Springs; sisters, Della LaFall of Fort Worth, TX, McHaley Cotton of San Augustine, TX and Lonnie Bishop of Dallas, TX; a sister-in-law, Henry Louise Chambers; a host of special nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Union Baptist Church, 219 Gulpha Street, Rev. Douglas E. Jones, pastor and Bishop Carl Ratliff, Sr. will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Evangelist Temple Church of God In Christ,1146 Pleasant Street where Elder Bernis Blake, Sr. is the pastor.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations are requested to Evangelist Temple COGIC Building Fund.
