Marian "Kay-Kay" Weston -Washington

"This Is My Story, This Is My Song, Praising My Savior"

On March 10, 1956, the story of Marian K. Matlock began in Hot Springs, AR, when she was born the daughter of Cecil and Margarite Brim Matlock.  Her parents completed their journey before her as well as her brother, Ray Matlock (May 1, 2019).

The second chapter of her life began in the city of Mt. Pine.  It was there where she received her early education.  She would later graduate from the Mt. Pine High Schoo

"Be completely humble and gentle: be patient, bearing with one another in love." Ephesians 4:2

As her pages of life continued to turn, we arrive at chapter three, when she married Robert Weston in 1974. Two beautiful daughters were added to their family, Zireesha and Tamika Weston. Marian was a lover of people and found some good in everyone.  She never looked down on anyone and never passed judgment.  She met Evans Washington while working at the Arlington and they later married on December 20, 2005.  He gladly accepted her children and grandchildren.  They remained married until her demise.   She would always tell him that she saw good in him.

"Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might…" Ecclesiastes 9:10a

Not being one to sit idle, in chapter four, Kay-Kay, as she was known to most, began her work career with the Spillway Restaurant where she was employed for many years. She later had a short career with Weyerhaeuser Company.  Kay-Kay's real love was for cooking; therefore, she would work the remainder of her working career at the Arlington Hotel & Resort for over thirty years until her health forced her to retire.

Kay always kept a clean home for her family, no matter what her address was.  Her home would always be adorned with beautiful home interior decoration that was mostly purchased from Mrs. Fannie Hill. She had a special love for angels which were displayed in her home.  She also loved to make floral arrangements for any occasion.

Kay was known for her stylish way of dressing and her many styles of glamour pieces.  Kay wore clothes that you seldom saw anywhere else.  She loved to make her face glow for the Lord.

Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:30

Kay-Kay was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in her younger years.  She later joined the Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Douglas E. Jones.  It was no secret the love and respect that she had for Pastor Jones and his family.  Kay accepted her call to the ministry under Pastor Jones' leadership.  Kay didn't have to stand behind the pulpit to share the good news of Jesus; she used every opportunity that was afforded to her – home, work, grocery store, mall or the streets.  Kay was a true Prayer Warrior and never took it lightly.  She was known for praying for the sick and anyone she felt needed prayer.  As a member of Union Baptist Church, she exhibited her faith by serving in the Choir, Praise Team, Gospel Angels Sunday School Class as well as a Minister.  We will forever remember her laughing spirit.  When the spirit of the Lord would fall upon her, she would just laugh and laugh, especially when Pastor Jones was preaching the word.  Kay was a true worshipper and was not ashamed of praising God.  She danced before the Lord with such grace.  Kay will be missed by many for her energetic projections and her charismatic way of singing.  Songs that blessed the souls of so many, songs that were her living testimony, "God Is Keeping Me, Just Call on The Lord, I've Been Running for Jesus Along Time, I'm A Soldier in the Army of the Lord", "Something About God's Grace", just to name a few.  No one could make the congregation move like Kay-Kay.  She would shout and worship so hard that the ushers could never assist her and she would often hit the floor, but she never got hurt.  One thing for sure, her "Worship was for Real."  Kay-Kay was a faithful supporter of UMBC and she would often pay her assessment before time.  She was also a private giver to others and it was never mentioned because she gave it from her heart.

To my family and friends, I've left behind; please don't shed wild tears, for in your heart I'll always be. When you miss me think of the memories that we have made and the laughter we have shared.  If you want to make me happy, please accept Christ in your heart so that one day we will meet again. I leave my love to my husband, Evans Washington; my two daughters, Zireesha Weston and Tamika (Robert) Jackson; my siblings,  Shirley (Anthony) Taylor, Marshella Lewis, Jimmy (Mattie) Matlock, Sandra (Larry) Jackson, Gwendolyn Matlock-Graham, Jackie (Benny) McKinney,  Patricia (Orville) Grey, Calvin Ray, and Ruthie Collins; and a host of bonus siblings; aunts and uncles, W.T.(Rosie) Matlock, Cleveland (Betty) Matlock, Leavy Matlock and Dorothy Tucker; five grandchildren, Robert Jackson, Jr., Jacoby Weston, Bobby, Savonne and Keyosha Nutt, seven great grandchildren; a host of extended family including my brother and sisters-in-law, Willie C. (Sarah) Washington, Virgie Brewer, Bonnette Smith and Faye Jones, my many  friends too numerous to list, including my special friend, Paulette Bailey and her family, my godchildren, Jason, NaTisha and Adrien Gardner; their family, Xavier Washington, DeAndre Burns, JaNiya Ference, Kynan & Kayden Gardner; and my beloved Union Baptist Church Family.

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

The Final Chapter: To Be Continued

Marian "Kay-Kay" Weston-Washington suffered from end-stage renal failure and diabetes.  Recently she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought every affliction that was placed upon her with courage, grace, and strength.  After all that she went through she never lost her joy, she never lost her praise.  She was praying for a kidney transplant and God had another plan for her.  On the evening of September 27, 2019, at CHI-St. Vincent Hospital she fell asleep in the Lord.  Kay's message to us is: brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.  According to the Lord's word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.  For the Lord, himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.  Therefore encourage one another with these words.                                                                                                                   1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.

Funeral service waws held at Union Baptst Church, Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 10:00 AM.  Burial was held in Crestview Cemetery.
