Mary Elizabeth Jopa, 58, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, transitioned on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at her home. She was born on October 21, 1967, to her loving parents, Larry Jopa and Mary Puls, in Hillsdale, IL

Mary received her early education in Illinois, attending Lincoln Middle School in Park Ridge. She pursued higher education with dedication and determination, earning an Associate Degree from the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, in June 1991. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, in May 1993, and later achieved her Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) from Loyola University in May 1999.

Mary devoted her life to helping others through her professional and volunteer work. Her career reflected a deep commitment to service, working as a counselor with Cornell Interventions, a respite provider with Community Family Services, a family educator at Maryville Academy, and serving as Assistant Director and Supervisor at the Hinsdale Youth Center. In addition to her work in social services, Mary also held positions as a retail sales associate at Catherine’s, an office assistant in the Office of Admissions at Midwestern University, and a loss control manager with K-Mart Corporation.

Her passion for advocacy extended beyond her professional life. Mary volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) from October 1996 to January 2000, providing a voice for children in need. She was also a proud member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, a national honors organization, reflecting her commitment to academic excellence.

Mary will be deeply missed by her uncle, Edward Puls; her aunt, Laura Puls; and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will cherish her memory.

She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, and dedication to improving the lives of others.
