Obituary

Mary Anna Thrower, 76, of Hot Springs, AR, transitioned on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. She was born on February 23, 1948, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to James Walden and Gladys Grider Rigsby.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Grider Rigsby; her great aunt, Glassie Lee Porter; her sister, Annabell Rigsby Lewis; her brother, Ledell Rigsby; her granddaughter, Ashley Williams; and her great-grandson, Amyrhe Turner.

Mary received her early education at Douglas and Goldstein Elementary Schools and graduated from the Historic Langston High School in 1966. She also received a diploma from Euba City College in California. Professionally, she served as an assistant phone operator at DHS in Hot Springs.

She joined The Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. During her time there, she sang in the junior choir, served on the usher board as supervisor of the junior church, was a one-year sponsor of the cotton dress tea, and served as president of the pastor's aid. Mary also planned many fundraisers, plays, heavenly broadcasts, 7-Up program, and delivering speeches.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Louis Thrower III of Hot Springs, AR; two daughters, Meleissa Thrower and Kassandra "Kassy" Baker, both of Hot Springs, AR; one brother, James "Bo" Grider, and one sister, Virginia Sue Rigsby, both of Hot Springs, AR; one aunt, Willie Lee Grider; a god sister, Brenda Martin of Davenport, IA; a goddaughter, Lanetta Darrough of Little Rock, AR; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The memorial service will be held on August 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Carrigan Memorial Funeral Service, 336 E. Grand Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71901.
