Obituary

Remembering Merniya A. Myers-McKisick

"You do not know what will happen tomorrow.  For what is your life? Is it a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away" (James 4:14)

Merniaya Amarri Myers-McKisick faced her untimely death on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at the age of 19 along with her sister, Montieria Adriana Myers.  She was born December 8, 1999 to her birth mother, LaTonya Myers and Bob Travis Mckisick in Hot Springs, AR.

She was preceded in death by her aforementioned sister; parental   great-grandparents, Willis and Lucy McNeal and Mamie and Peter McKissick, Sr; grandmothers, Naomi Mckissick and Annette Washington; aunt, Darlene Wafford and a cousin, Xavier Wafford.

Na' Na as she was known to many was a 2018 graduate of Lakeside High School.  After high school, she attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff majoring in Psychology. Her goal was to work with at risk children and their families.  She began her religious foundation and was baptized in 2012 at New Beginning Outreach Center Church of God In Christ in Newport News, VA.  She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior under the leadership of Pastor Sherman J. Watkins.  Upon relocating to Hot Springs, AR she became a member of New Faith Christian Ministries where she exhibited her faith by serving in the youth department and praise team ministry.  She was loved by all.  She will always be remembered for her smile that would light up the room, along with her sassy attitude. She was an inspiring Instagram Model and loved to do makeup.  She enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.

Memories of Mernaiya will forever be engraved in the hearts of her family and friends.  She leaves to cherish precious memories to her father and step-mother, Bob and Barbara McKisick; her birth mother, LaTonya Myers; god-mother, LaTrisha Portlock; siblings, TyGjiona McKisick, Searra Batts, Daniya Mitchell, Tyler McKisick, Grant McKisick, Mercedes Lemons, TahJon Myers, and TahJay Myers and Tavin York; bonus siblings, Ty'Daliah and TyMar Hollins, and Tylin Turner; maternal grandparents, Larry Myers, Linda Myers and Howard Brooks, paternal grandfather, Peter McKissick, Jr. She also leaves to cherish her memories, a host of aunts and uncle, including, Sherita and Lowell Knight who raised and nurtured her for eight years.  A special place rested in her heart for them. Also surviving is a host of extended family and friends to numerous to name at lest we omit someone.

Although Mernaiya's passing has left a void in our hearts, we celebrate the life loaned to us by remembering the good times and cherishing the memories we all hold dear.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, August 2, 2019, at Hot Springs Junior Academy 701 Main Street.  Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Immanuel Christian Fellowship Church, 1536 E Grand Ave. Burial will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Wheatley, AR.  Guest registry is at http://www.carriganmemorial.com .
