"Seek ye the Lord while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near." – Isaiah 55:6
Mrs. Odell Artense Reed King, age 85, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, peacefully departed this life on June 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, kindness, and devotion to family.
Odell was born on November 3, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, to Osie Reed and Mary Robinson Reed. She was the tenth child born to this union.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Hayward Reed, Osie Reed Jr., and Nathaniel Reed; her sisters, Haven Reed, Ida Mae Reed, Marjorie Tillman, Juanita White, Orleans Hastings, and Isabelle Catching; and her great-grandchildren, Janiya and Ajayna.
She received her education in the Chicago Public School System, attending James A. Sexton Elementary School and graduating from Washburn High School.
In April 1960, Odell was united in holy matrimony for 66 years to Kelsey King, and together they built a loving family. To this union were born two sons, Mark King and Roland (D'Andrea) King.
Odell dedicated many years of faithful service to the Near North Children's Center, later known as the Winfield Moody Health Center, in Chicago. After relocating to Arkansas, she continued serving others through her employment in the Housekeeping Department at National Park Hospital.
A woman of unwavering faith, Odell was a longtime member of Saint Matthew's United Methodist Church in Chicago. Upon moving to Hot Springs, she continued her walk with Christ as a devoted member of Visitors Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. She loved participating in church programs and activities whenever her health allowed.
Odell found joy in life's simple pleasures. She enjoyed going to the movies, eating Chinese food, traveling to visit family and friends, and, most of all, bringing laughter and smiles to those around her. Her warm spirit, gentle heart, and caring nature touched countless lives.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted husband, Kelsey King; her beloved sons, Mark King and Roland (D'Andrea) King; three granddaughters, Jamila, Terrah, and Brittany; ten great-grandchildren, Makalia, Alejandrina, Miliyah, Rariel, Robert, Nicholas II, Navion, Davide, Tashiya, and Braylon; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Though she will be deeply missed, Odell's legacy of faith, compassion, love, and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday June 27, 2026, at 12:00 Noon at Visitors Chapel A.M.E Church 319 Church St Hot Springs Arkansas 71901.
