Ozelle Scott Straw age 88, of Hot Springs died Friday, March 23, 2018.
She was born September 24, 1929 to Sarah Geneva McCloud and Lemel Joseph Scott, Sr in Gary, IN.
She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Gary, IN. She later attended Cosmetology School. She worked for the Yellow Cab Co in Gary, IN. Upon moving to Little Rock, AR she became a dispatcher with the Little Rock Police Department. She then relocated to Dallas, TX and was an apartment manager. After having enough of the city life, she made Hot Springs her home. She worked for CSO Head start even after she retired.
Ozelle was a faithful and supportive member of the Union Baptist Church. She exhibited her faith by serving with the Deaconess/Mother Board Ministry, Elite Seniors of UMBC and the Life Changers Sunday School Class. If the van, bus, car or ship was moving you could count on Ozelle Straw occupying a seat. She will always be remembered for her homemade tamales and handmade crafts. Ozelle was a very impressive dresser and often tailor made her own clothes.
Ozelle was preceded in death by her aforementioned parents, her husbands, Eddie Henry, James Salisbury and Major Straw, a niece raised as her daughter, Catherine Kaye Brown; her siblings, Clementine Knox, Eliza Miller, Louis Scott, Evelyn Stokes, Delores Wise, Joseph Lemel Scott, Shirley Johnson, Paul Scott.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Katherine Brown of Hot Springs; a niece raised as her daughter, Carolyn Faye Powell of Dallas; a faithful and devoted sister-in-love and caregiver, Janice Scott of Hot Springs; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Union Baptist Church with Pastor Douglas E. Jones, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Open visitation will be from 11:00 AM – 5:30 AM, Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the funeral home.
