Pastor Douglas E. Jones age 63, of Hot Springs went to be with the Lord on New Year's Day, January 1, 2019.
He was a former member of First Baptist Church-Vine, Malvern, AR and Greater St. Paul Baptist Church, Hot Springs, AR. He has served as the Pastor of Union Baptist Church, Hot Springs, AR for twenty-seven years. He studied Theology and Divinity Courses through the Andersonville Correspondence School, Southwest Seminary, and Glad Tidings Seminary School of Divinity. Reverend Jones is known throughout the State of Arkansas, the United States and especially the Southwest District Association and the Consolidated Missionary Baptist State Convention of Arkansas as a gifted and talented singer and minister of the gospel. He served in the Southwest District as 2nd Vice Moderator; has been Chief of Security to the Consolidated Missionary Baptist State Convention of Arkansas since January 2008, and has served as 1st Vice President of Congress from July 2014 until July 2017. He also served as President for Hot Springs Baptist Ministers Conference.
Those completely the journey before him include his parents, Alvester and Dorothy McNeely Jones; parents-in-love, S. B. & Ruther Banks; brother, Sylvester Jones; grandparents, Larkin & Trudie Jones and Fred & Mary McNeely.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Marie Banks Jones of Hot Springs; his sons, Preston (Stephanie) Love of Gig Harbor, WA and Douglas Alvester (Laquilla) Jones of Hot Springs; his grandchildren and the apples of his eye, Aryel Jones, Preston II and Paris Love; sister, Parnethia Monroe of Malvern; brothers, Larry (Carmen) Jones and Robert Morgan all of Malvern; god-children, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Union Missionary Baptist Church Family; Co-Workers and many, many friends and co-laborers in the Gospel.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, January, 5, 2019 at the Hot Springs Convention Center Horner Hall, 134 Convention Blvd. Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery.
His body will lie in state Friday at Union Baptist Church 219 Gulpha St. Friday, January 4, 2019 from 10:00 AM with a formal visitation and program starting at 5:30 PMpm.
