On September 17, 1952, Mary Townsend and Hezekiah Townsend Sr. gave birth to their
seventh child, Charles Edward Townsend in Hensely Arkansas. Charles left home at the young age of 16. After staying with relatives in Michigan he went to job corps where he
received his GED. He then joined the United States Army.
After discharging from the Army, he attended several higher learning institutions; Philander
Smith College, UALR, and Arkansas College of Technology majoring in computer engineering and minoring in music. Upon Graduating from college, he was employed by
Xerox Corporation as a field engineer.
Charles Edward Townsend met Tenesia Monique Larkin in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1994 and was married on April 12, 1997. To this union three children were born, two sons Sean ElliottTownsend and Samuel James Townsend, one daughter DeNiece Shanell Townsend, and two bonus daughters Destinie Lorae Larkin and Daffinie Jo Larkin. Charles Townsend accepted his call into the ministry and began his first pastorship in 1998 at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Statesboro, Georgia, where he remained a faithful pastor for 13 years. He founded The Church of Truth Ministries in 2011 where he was executive Pastor for 6 years. He retired from the ministry in 2017 due to his prolonged illness and moved back home to Little Rock, Arkansas to the comfort of his family.
Charles Edward Townsend will be remembered as a devoted leader, a loving father, a forward thinker, and most of all a follower of Christ. He will be dearly missed as he was a mentor and a friend to many.
Charles is proceeded in death by his mother Mary Townsend, his father Hezekiah Townsend Sr., his sister Arlene Alexander, his brother Hezekiah Townsend Jr., his Mother in Law Patsy Dowdy, and his father in law Johnnie Larkins, two nephews, Sedrick Townsend and Rodney Townsend Sr., and one niece Christy Townsend.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two sons and one daughter, Sean Townsend, Sam Townsend, and DeNiece Townsend; all of Tulsa OK, two bonus daughters; Destinie Larkin of Tulsa OK, and Daffinie (O'Neil) Larkin; of Atlanta GA, One Grandson; Rayden Brinson; of Tulsa, OK, one Godson; Jecorey Young; of Statesboro GA, three Sisters; Rosa Lee Spence; of Hensley, Arkansas Katie Lee Stelivan; of Springfield, IL, and Wanda Townsend; of Little Rock Arkansas, four brothers; Lee Floyd Townsend; of Hensley AR, Robert Townsend; of Springfield IL, Carl Townsend; of Little Rock AR, Odell Townsend; of Little Rock AR, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service will be Monday, November 21, 2022, at 11:00 am with the visitation one hour prior to the service at The Mercy Church 8705 Scott Hamilton DR. Little Rock. The burial will be immediately following the service at Elmlawn Cemetary 5900 W. 12th St Little Rock, AR, 72204.
