Samuel Louis Wright affectionately known as "L' to his family, answered the voice of God on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the age of 91. He was born May 7, 1926 in Dumas to Will and Ophelia Johnson Wright, Sr. He was one of eleven children born to their union. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Deborah Wright and Linda Wright; one grandson, Curtis Wright; his twin brother, Sammy who died at birth, Ruby Wright, Leroy Wright, Willie Mae Wright Webb and Marie Wright Rawlings.
Samuel attended school Corbin School System. He was later drafted in the United States Army March 30, 1945 as the war was ending. He served in Okam, Japan. He returned to finish high school at Corbin Hight School which was held at the AM&N College (now University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff). He later attended barber school for two years. Samuel started a career with the United States Postal Service from which he retired.
Mr. Sam as he was known in the community of Hot Springs love to collect treasures that others declared junk. He was definitely a master of all trade, Mr. Fix man.
Samuel was a faithful member of the Historic Visitor's Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. He served faithfully and quietly with the Culinary Ministry, Willing Workers Ministry, and always made sure the church was clean. Most of all he was a faithful financial supporter of the ministry.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 70 years, Hazel Fite Wright of Hot Springs; his brothers, Will (Shirley) Wright, Jr. of Pine Bluff and John (LaFrances) Wright of Arlington, TX; his twin sisters, Mary Franklin and Martha (Robert) White all of Pine Bluff and Ophelia Boatwright of Flint, MI; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
A celebration of life will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Visitors Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers or customary reembraces memorials are requested to the Deborah L. Wright Creative and Performing Arts Committee at Haven United Methodist Church 107 Burroughs Street, Hot Springs, AR.
