Obituary

Sharrell Williams Thompson - dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend - entered peacefully into eternal life on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Jefferson Regional Hospital in Pine Bluff, AR.

With beauty, grace, and a heart full of love; Sharrell entered this world on June 7, 1957, in Forrest City Arkansas to the late Jerry Charles Williams and Ida Mae Edwards Glover.

Sharrell grew up in Crawfordsville, AR with her siblings and extended family. Her faith was always the cornerstone of her existence, even at an early age when she accepted Christ and joined Galilee Baptist Church in Crawfordsville, Arkansas.  She raised 2 daughters, Antonia Williams and Sandra Udell Taylor, a son Louis Jermaine Udell, and 2 grandchildren Larry Clay and Sharrell Cooper. In 2014, she rekindled her love and married her high school sweetheart, Iris Lee Thompson, Sr.

After graduating from McNeil/Crawfordsville High School (Crawfordsville, AR) in 1975, she attended East Arkansas Community College where she received her Associate of Arts and Science (AAS) in Business Administration and Management in 1984.  She continued her education at Shelby State Community College and received an Associate of Arts and Science (AAS) in Radiologic Technology/Science – Radiographer in 1988.  After graduating, she was hired at the Veteran Administration Medical Center (VA) in Memphis, TN where she rapidly progressed through several leadership positions within the Radiology department and sat on several quality, safety, and coaching committees. Throughout her career, she was recognized by her company and several organizations for her contributions and impact on the field of Radiology. After her 26-year tenure with the VA, she retired to move with her husband to the Washington, DC area. After arriving in the Washington, DC area, Sharrell worked as a contractor with the VA Medical Center until January 2020. After her husband retired, they moved to Hot Springs, AR. Her strong, independent, and carefree nature didn't allow for her to sit for too long before resuming work as a traveling MRI Technician throughout the South until June 24, 2023.

Sharrell had a smile and a laugh that radiated a room. Those who knew her, witnessed a Proverbs 31 woman in action, displaying her strong faith in God as she actively served in and around her church and community. Upon returning to Arkansas in 2020, Iris and Sharrell joined Roanoke Baptist Church in Hot Springs, AR, and became actively involved in church and community functions.  She loved selflessly helping people, whether it was giving to charities like the Sickle Cell Foundation or helping her family and friends.  Anyone blessed to be around her for any length of time experienced her zeal for living life to the fullest, levity in every situation, and love for bringing everyone together with her passion for cooking and baking.

Preceding in death are her parents Jerry Charles Williams and Ida Mae Edwards Glover, brothers; John Wesley Nelms, James Arthur Nelms, and James Malcolm Williams, Sr. and sister; Beatrice Williams Floyd, daughters; Antonia Williams and Sandra Udell Taylor, and grandson; John Wesley.

She leaves behind to celebrate her life: husband; Iris Lee Thompson Sr, sons; Louis Jermaine (Natasha) Udell, Robert Mitchell III, Iris Lee (Erika) Thompson and Shawn (Robin) Thompson,  daughters; Lejunoesque Mitchell, Chevalier Mitchell, Allianz Mitchell, Crystal Howard, and Sharron Peyton;  grandsons; Larry (Keonia) Clay, Kenneth Taylor, Jr., granddaughters;  Sharrell Cooper, Anterica Udell, Makylia Udell, Sumiya Udell, and Jekyia Udell; brothers; Edward Lee Nelms, Sr., Joseph Patterson, Carl Stokes,  sisters; Charlene Williams Hale, Patricia Nelms Johnson, Ruby Williams Jefferson, Rose Williams McKillion, Nancy Thompson, uncle; Al (Marilyn) Shaddid and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished family members and friends.

Sharrell lived a full and vibrant life leaving her mark on family, friends, community, and church. To God be the Glory for the life of Sharrell Williams Thompson. Final parting words that we will always remember Sharrell saying, "GO COWBOYS".
