Susie Mae Humphrey in her 86 th season of life gained her angel wings on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in the comfort of her home. She was born December 30, 1931 in Neelyville, MO to James Edward and Corrine Outlaw Phillips, Sr. They preceded her in death as well as her husbands, L.V. Pruitt, Waldroff Dukes and Rev. William Humphrey; siblings, Corrine Wesson, Judy "Ardella" Perkins, and Raymond Phillips, stepchildren, Tommy and Timothy Pinckney, Christine Reed and Nathan Dendy.
Susie moved to Chicago in 1964. She was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. She exhibited her faith by serving as on the Mother's Board, Deaconess, Choir and wherever her serve was needed. She retired from U.S. Steel in Chicago, IL. Susie was a cosmetologist and a seamstress. She loved to knit and crochet. She enjoyed making others look good and spending time with her family. In 1999 she moved to Hot Springs and became a member of Roanoke Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until her health began to decline.
Susie was known to her children as, Mama Susie and to her nieces and nephews as, Aunt Pete. She was a hands-on grandmother and great grandmother. She was very instrumental in their upbringing and introduction to Christ. Her charity of choice was the March of Dimes, as she understood and valued the importance of providing funding for families with babies born premature or with disabilities.
Those who remain to continue her legacy and cherish her memories include her daughters, Judy Glover of Hot Springs who along with her children was her caregiver, and Laurel Johnson and Joy Dukes both of Chicago, IL; one brother, James Edward Phillips, Jr of Tucson, AZ; brother-in-law, Robert Perkins of Hot Springs; stepchildren, Augusta (Brenda) Pinckney, Leo Eric Pinckney, Lawanna (Dorsey) Pinckney-Williams, Rosie Pinckney all of Chicago, IL and Beverly Scrutchions of Flat Rock, MI; 24 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be 12::00 PM Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Roanoke Baptist Church. Her earthly remains will be cremated at her request after the service. Visitation will be prior to the service.
