Obituary

Tommy Lee Reed Sr., age 67 of Hot Springs, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.

Family gatherings at Pooh's, a great Thanksgiving Day meal with all the trimming, a serious game of Spades, Domino's slamming the table, cousins laughing, a day, a week, in woods searching for that perfect buck, a calm lake, or river with a school of brim or bass below ready to be snatched up reeled in and later fried or just given away. Those were the activities enjoyed and lived for by Tommy Lee Reed Sr. The simple pleasures in life were his essence of life. Tommy Lee Reed Sr. was born Sept 4, 1953, in Arkadelphia, AR to Eloise Dickerson and Atoy Reed transitioned on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.

Tommy was the eldest son and took his role as big brother seriously. Always there for his siblings. He was his Mother's helper and her go-to "Guy". The family was and has always been a very important part of the life that Tommy lived. Tommy a 1973 graduate of Hot Springs High School married Debbie Thompson in September 1974 and they had two sons: Thomas "TuTu" Reed Jr., and Derrick Reed.  In April 1981 he married Shirley Davis and to this union, two more children were added; Tanya Reed and Edward Reed. His children were a source of pride. He relished their accomplishments and achievements. Just as he worked hard, he instilled in them hard work ethics.  He retired from the Garland County Road Department with 37 years of service.

His children were his pride, but his greater joy came from his grandchildren. They in recent years were the source of even greater pride. And in the last few months, his bragging rights were centered on his newest family members his great-grandchild.

Who was Tommy Reed without mentioning the Daybreak Hunting Club and his love for hunting and the years it took him to perfect his craft at deer hunting. And of course his love for fishing. That was who made Tommy Reed the man the outdoorsmen. Seeking his peace with Nature. But he also found peace among his fellow 1973 Hot Springs High School classmates as members of their alumni organization. He was instrumental in their meeting, fundraisers, and gathering. Tommy also was a member of Historic Eureka Missionary Baptist Church.

Tommy was preceded in death by his son Thomas "Tutu" Reed Jr.

Tommy's well-cherished life will be everlasting in the hearts and minds of his mother, Eloise Blackmon, his father Atoy Reed, sisters; Vanessa(Lemuel)Oakley, Brenda(Billy)Blackmon-Carr; brother, Dennis Blackmon; children, Derrick Reed, Tonya Reed, and Edward Reed; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; one aunt Zelma Smith; and very special friend Nicki Battles.
