Remembering Sister Vicki

Victoria Lee Price or as known by her family and true friends, Vicki made her earthly debut in Gary, Indiana on Wednesday, September 8, 1948. Her proud parents, Raymond Ira and Erma Lee Williams Mosby welcomed her with open arms and hearts. She was the firstborn grandchild on her mother's side.

Vicki accepted Christ early on and was baptized once as a young girl in her grandmother and mother's AME church, and again as an adult woman in the Baptist church. She also had her First Holy Communion at the age of 8 in the Catholic church.

Following her mother's untimely death at the tender age of 4, she was moved around until her father remarried, and then four years later she was returned to the loving arms of her maternal relatives, especially those of her highly revered grandmother.

A proud Gary Roosevelt H.S. alumna, there she was encouraged by her family and schoolteachers to "aim for the moon and shoot for the stars." This mantra served her well later in life.

Three of her five live-birthed offspring were blessed to reach adulthood: Eric, Shanta, and Adonis. After much personal prayer, Vicki raised them under the admonition of the Lord, while she sojourned through RN school; finally completing her courses and passing her Michigan State Boards on the very first try.

OB Gyn and Well Baby Nursery were her preferred units to work on, but she also worked during the course of her cut-short nursing career on the Step-down Level II Nursery with primary preemies in Detroit and at times worked on the Med-Surg floor at Detroit Memorial.

While living in Sweet Home, AR, she was assigned to work in the adult step-down ICU at UAMS in Little Rock, and at Herman Kiefer, Detroit's Public Health Department in Hamtramck, MI. Later in her career, she worked in Phoenix, AZ on the "lockdown" unit caring for inmates' male and female. She took delight in working at Hutzel Outpatient Department/Clinic in Detroit, which offered a myriad of disciplines: Unisex Urology, Colposcopy, OB Gyn, and Hi Risk OB., and as a Detroit Health Department notification liaison.

After prematurely retiring on disability from a plethora of long-term plaguing personal health issues Vicki was drawn to volunteer as best, she could; eventually collaborating with the City of Detroit, Mayor Archer, and the City Council, she soon networked with other community groups, incorporating "Friends of Martz Park, Inc" (FOMPI). Her prayers were answered when at the initial community meeting was held, three people out of 22 raised their hands volunteering to be on a newfound committee, later to become "Friends..." After 5 laborious years, the 9th Police Precinct's.

Community Police suggested the Martz site be completely redesigned and renamed Lotta B. Martz Playfield, or as known in the 'hood, simply " Martz Park." The highly anticipated day of red ribbon cutting was covered by Fox News Detroit, which volunteered to pay for the remaining balance necessary after the Founder and Secretary/recording and corresponding FOMPI submitted a HUD Neighborhood Grant "good faith" amount of $25,000.00.

The grassroots organization instructed HUD to deposit the full amount directly into earmarked funds labeled Lotta B. Martz. The neighborhood children and others basked in the drizzling rain, exuberant over their brand newly built playfield with all new playground equipment! There were grilled hot dogs, chips, box juices, and bottled water for all plus a giant sheet cake to the Founder's specifications carried out with help from the 9th Precinct Community Officers.

While serving as Editor of ICFC's relaunched newsletter, The Illuminator, Vicki always did her very best, just as she'd done years before when she volunteered to be Editor of her Maryvale Hospital unit's newsletter, The Scoop.

Apparently, God Himself must have made Sister Vicki somewhat of a perfectionist, but she strived to temper her proclivities to connect with everyone. If she ever committed to doing something, you could rest assured the result would be her best.

She loved and was faithful to her husband of 43 years. She cherished each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whenever she prayed, it was for her entire family, her 3, plus her beloved spouses 7, and each of their offspring, down through the generations.

If you were fortunate enough to call her friend, you were fortunate indeed. She never took anyone she loved for granted and will be missed by all who got to know the real her.
