Wanell Marie
Roberts
Aug 11, 1953 — Jun 6, 2022
Wanell was born in Sherman, Texas, on August 11, 1953, to Thomas J. Dickson and Wanda M. Henthorn-Dickson. She was married to Donnie L. Martin in 1971. To this union, two funny, wonderfully talented sons were born, Jason and Jonathan. Donnie proceeded with her in death. She later married Raymond Roberts who also proceeded to her in death.
Wanell was one of the cutest little blonde-headed girls God made. She looked so cute in the little ruffled and frilly dresses I made for her with her few little blonde curls. She had a little pair of brown ankle boots before she was two which she loved to show off. People noticed them, so she would really "show off" like some model on a runway! When she began to talk, she was one of the most inquisitive children. As soon as one question was answered, she had another!
Wanell graduated from Southside High School, near Batesville, AR, as valedictorian. She was so brilliant her family felt often, that "she was too smart for her own good"! She could work on cars-could have been a super mechanic. Ideas for inventions she had and individual items she made could have made her rich if she had patented them. Rather than become rich, she chose to give away the items she made to friends and family. Caregiving was a talent she had that she enjoyed. It seemed she was always looking for someone she could care for or help. Sharing her Bible studies and belief in God was something she practiced everywhere she went. She loved to talk. As her grandmother would have said, "she could talk the horns of a Billy Goat!".
As her mother, I could be biased. I often wondered with all the brains and knowledge Wanell had, why did she choose to do what she did? Sometimes, she chose to live like a vagabond or as a "pioneer woman". People are different and Wanell was definitely different!
She leaves behind, her two sons, Jason (Tessa) Martin Mayflower, AR, and Jonathan Martin, Bagota, Texas, her mother, Wanda M. Dickson, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, and brothers: Jeffrey (Debbie)Dickson, Lonsdale, AR, and Dwayne (Becky) Dickson, Mint Hill, NC. Also, six grandchildren, aunts and uncles, twelve nieces and nephews, fourteen great-nieces and nephews, and special friends The Michau's, Jane, she leaves her fur baby Cowey, who loved and will miss her and a host of other family, cousins, and friends mourn her passing.
Wanell was looking daily for the return of Jesus to take her home. She is no longer looking or waiting, she's home now!
I shall miss our morning texting and many times throughout the day, but I cannot wish her back. She was dearly loved by many! We will miss her!
